Award Category means each of the following award categories at the Promotion:
(a) Australian Community Father of the Year;
(b) Australian Sporting Father of the Year; and
(c) Australia’s Best Workplace for Fathers.
Finalists means the final nine Nominees (three selected from each Award Category) who have been selected by the Judging Panel from the Shortlist to progress to the next round of judging for each of the Award Categories.
Judging Panel means the judging panel comprised of the Australian Father’s Day Council members, guest judges, ambassadors and Sponsor representatives as appointed by the Promoter in its absolute discretion.
National Announcement Event means the event hosted by the Promoter to announce the Winners of the Award Categories scheduled for 31 August 2023 in Sydney.
Nominator means the person who completes a nomination form to nominate a father, father figure or workplace (as applicable) for an Award Category in the Promotion.
Nominee means a father, father figure or workplace (as applicable) nominated for an Award Category in the Promotion.
Nomination Period means 12:01AM AEST 05 September 2022 to 11:59PM AEST on 10 June 2023.
Promoter means The Fathering Project PKH Ltd ABN 67 605 348 776 of Suite 4, Level 8, 275 Alfred Street, North Sydney NSW 2060.
Promotion means The Australian Fathering Awards 2022.
Promotion Period means 05 September 2022 to 3 September 2023.
Shortlist means the list of eighteen Nominees (six selected from each Award Category) who have been selected by the Promoter to progress to the next round of judging for each of the three Award Categories.
Sponsor means an entity or government body which provides financial or other support for the Promotion, as listed on the Promoter’s website from time to time.
Winner means the Nominee who wins their relevant Award Category in the Promotion.
(a) Entry is open to all Australian residents aged 18 years or over except for:
(i) employees of the Promoter and their immediate families;
(ii) members of the Judging Panel and their immediate families; and
(iii) employees of the Sponsors and their immediate families.
(b) The Nominator, Nominee and their two referees must all be 18 years or over.
(c) Unsuccessful Nominees may be re nominated in subsequent years.
(d) Self-nominations are not permitted.
(e) Posthumous nominations are not permitted.
3. Nomination process
(a) Nominations must be made via the Promoter’s official nomination form available on the Promoter’s website, Facebook page or on request from the Promotion team, within the Nomination Period.
(b) The Nominator must describe in 300 words or less why the Nominee should be considered for the Award Category. Any nominations exceeding 300 words will not be eligible for an Award Category.
(c) The Promoter may contact a Nominee, Nominator, or referee at any time after receiving a nomination, to determine whether the nomination meets the eligibility requirements, to request further information and / or to assess the nomination.
(d) The Promoter reserves the right to verify the eligibility of nominations and the information provided by Nominees or referees (including but not limited to a Nominee’s identity, age, place of residence, Working with Children checks, police checks, and reference checks) and to disqualify any entrant for tampering with the nomination process, providing false information or for submitting a nomination which is not in accordance with these Terms and Conditions of entry. Nominators and Nominees agree to participate in all required checks including doing all such things necessary to permit the Promoter to undertake the checks.
(e) Nominators and Nominees for the Australia’s Best Workplace for Fathers acknowledge and agree that the Promoter may:
(i) request the industrial relations and related policies of the Nominee or information concerning those policies;
(ii) request any information pertinent to the nomination that could adversely affect the reputation or goodwill of the Promoter, the Promotion or a Sponsor; and
(iii) verify any information provided with a referee or other third party, and an agreement to facilitate such verification may be required, and any failure to disclose information, or assist the Promoter in connection with the Promoter’s assessment or verification of that information may result in the assessment of the nomination not progressing.
(f) If requested by the Promoter, Nominees must authorise and direct the Australian Federal Police and all other police services to release details of any their previous convictions to the Promoter and / or its solicitors.
(g) Any contact details entered incorrectly on the nomination entry form may (in the Promoter’s absolute discretion) invalidate the nomination.
(h) The Promoter takes no responsibility for late, lost, incomplete, or misdirected entries. All entries are deemed to be received at the time of receipt into the Promoter’s database, and not at the time of entry or submission by the Nominator.
4. Nomination assessment process
(a) Each entry will be individually judged by the Promoter to determine whether that entry will progress to the Shortlist, by assessing the nomination and its eligibility for the Promotion.
(b) Nominees who have progressed to the Shortlist will be notified by the Promoter by email and phone.
(c) All Shortlisted nominations must provide a photo of the Nominee and the contact details of two referees (other than the Nominator) including their telephone number so they can be
contacted by the Promoter to assess the nomination.
(d) At least one referee must be a person (aside from the Nominator) who:
(i) is not related to or living with the Nominee; and
(ii) who has known the Nominee for two years or more.
The referee could be a friend, colleague or somebody in the community who can be contacted during the judging period so the Promoter may ask further questions or obtain additional information regarding the nomination, if necessary. It is compulsory to provide a non-related (non-family member) referee, including their full contact details for the nomination to be considered.
(e) The Shortlist will be judged by the Judging Panel to determine whether that entry will progress to be a Finalist, based on the contribution the Nominee has made towards going ‘over and above’ for their children or children in their community.
(f) Nominees who have progressed to be Finalists:
(i) will be notified by the Promoter by email and phone; and
(ii) may be required to enter into a further agreement with the Promoter regarding their nomination.
(g) The Judging Panel will judge the Finalists and determine the Winner in each Award Category in its absolute discretion. The selection of the Winner reflects the nominations received and information available to the Promoter and the Judging Panel at the time of judging.
(h) One Winner will be selected from each Award Category, for a national total of the three Winners. Finalists who have progressed to be Winners will be notified by the Promoter by email and phone.
(i) The Winner of each Award Category will be required to attend the National Announcement Event at which the Promoter will announce each of the Award Category Winners. The National Announcement Event is scheduled for 31 August 2023 in Sydney. It is a condition of entry to the Promotion that the Nominee and their Nominator will attend the National
Announcement Event in person if the Nominee is a Winner.
(j) There are no prizes connected to the awards.
(k) The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify a Nominee or retract an award at any time if adverse information regarding the Nominee’s suitability or appropriateness is received, or if the Nominee’s conduct adversely affects the reputation or goodwill of the Promoter or the
Promotion, including after the Finalists and the Winner have been announced.
(l) The Promoter or any third party involved in the Promotion from time to time (including Sponsors, partners, prize providers and the ambassadors) will not be liable for loss or damages incurred by a Nominee or Nominator as a result of the Promoter’s decision to disqualify a nomination or retract an award.
5. Media responsibilities
(a) Nominees and Nominators agree to undertake all media and promotional activities relating to the Promotion as reasonably directed by the Promoter, including but not limited to:
(i) television, radio, print and online media interviews;
(ii) appearing in Sponsor publications; and
(iii) appearances in relation to the Promotion generally, and consent to being featured as the Promoter’s ‘Father / Father Figure of the Week’, Finalist or Winner of the Promotion should they be selected.
(b) If a Nominee is selected as the Promoter’s ‘Father / Father Figure of the Week’, Finalist or Winner of an Award Category, they may be required to be involved in promotional activities undertaken by a Sponsor in connection with the Promotion, or in promotional material displayed on a Sponsor’s website.
(c) Nominees and Nominators are not entitled to receive any payment or benefit from the Promoter for their participation in any media or promotional activities.
(d) In its sole discretion, the Promoter may agree to reimburse the reasonable expenses incurred by a Nominee and their Nominator in participating in such media or promotional activities as required in connection with the Promotion.
6. Travel expenses
(a) The Promoter will pay for the return economy airfares (as selected by the Promoter in its absolute discretion) of the Winners and their Nominators to attend the National Announcement Event. Any such air travel must commence from within Australia in the state or territory in which the Nominee and their Nominator ordinarily reside unless otherwise agreed by the Promoter (in its absolute discretion).
(b) The Promoter will pay for two nights’ accommodation (as selected by the Promoter in its absolute discretion) of the Winners and their Nominators to attend the National Announcement Event.
(c) The Winner and / or their Nominator may be required to present their credit card to the accommodation selected by the Promoter in Sydney to cover any incidental expenses they may incur during their stay at the accommodation. Any such expenses will not be reimbursed by the Promoter.
(d) The Promoter and all third parties involved in the Promotion from time to time (including Sponsors, partners, members of the Judging Panel, Father’s Day Council members and ambassadors) take no responsibility for any additional expenses incurred by any Nominee, Nominator or any other person in relation to their attendance at the National Announcement Event (except for those expenses incurred as noted in 6(a) and 6(b) above) including but not limited to airfare upgrades, room upgrades, additional guests or passengers, additional meals, spending money or ancillary costs.
7. Intellectual property
(a) All nominations, including photographs and other images provided by a Nominator as part of their nomination are the property of the Promoter.
(b) Nominees and Nominators agree to the reproduction, in full or part, of submitted nominations including any supporting statements and photographic material provided by the Nominator as part of their nomination, in any media materials (including on social media) and on websites, newsletters, marketing material and other publications relating to the Promotion of the Promoter and third parties involved in the Promotion.
(c) Nominees and Nominators agree to the Promoter providing these materials (including any personal information) to third parties connected to the Promotion.
(d) Nominees and Nominators agree to assign any rights they hold (including but not limited to copyright, moral rights and common law rights) in any material relating to the Promotion (including written and photographic) to the Promoter.
(e) The Winner of each Award Category and their Nominators consent to the Promoter using their name, likeness, image and / or voice collected at any event associated with the Promotion (including photograph, film and / or recording of the same) in any media promotion (including on social media) and the Promoter’s website, newsletters, marketing material and other publications for an unlimited period for the purpose of promoting the Promotion and/or the work of the Promoter, promoting any products or services offered by a Sponsor, and promoting services offered by the Promoter.
(b) Nominators who check the communications ‘tick box’ at the time of entry into the Promotion consent to receive future communications (including email and other electronic communications) regarding the Promotion, the Promoter’s products, services and events and to supply their contact details to Sponsors..
(a) By entering the Promotion, Nominators will be deemed to have accepted and be bound by these Terms and Conditions of entry. Nominees will be contacted by the Promoter to confirm that they accept the nomination and wish to proceed in the Promotion, and that they accept these Terms and Conditions of entry.
(b) Nominators agree to make the Nominees aware of these Terms and Conditions of entry and obtain from the Nominee all necessary authorisations, consents, documents and undertakings to meet these Terms and Conditions of entry as required by the Promoter.
(c) Any costs associated with accessing the Promoter’s website are the Nominator’s responsibility and are dependent on the internet service provider used.
(d) Failure by the Promoter to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights.
(e) The Promoter reserves the right in its absolute discretion to withdraw or amend the Promotion (including these Terms and Conditions of entry) as necessary at any time during the Promotion Period, due to circumstances beyond its control or if the Promoter becomes aware of any matters which may affect the security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Promotion. In such a case, the Promoter will use its reasonable efforts to notify Nominees, the form of such notification to be in the complete discretion of the Promoter. The Promoter will not be liable for any loss or damages incurred by a Nominee, Nominator or any other person as a result of the Promoter’s decision to cease or amend the Promotion.
(f) All Nominators and Nominees hereby release the Promoter from all claims, demands, suits, judgments, cross claims and set-offs, including any claim in negligence arising out of or incidental to the conduct of the Promotion and hereby indemnify the Promoter from and against all costs and damages incurred as a result of any breach of these Terms and Conditions.
No, there are no physical or monetary prizes.
Australian Father of the Year and Community Father of the Year award recipients have their name inscribed on a commemorative plate as well as receiving public acknowledgement and a framed certificate recognising their achievement. The Australian Sports Dad and Best Workplace for Fathers Award winners receive public acknowledgement and a framed certificate, as well as the opportunity to use the recognition in related business or sports club communications. Award winners outside of Sydney will receive free travel to Sydney for the Awards event on 31st August 2023.
All Award winners will receive free accommodation in Sydney for the Awards event on 31st August 2023.
Father figures are male role models who go above and beyond to improve the lives of the children around them. Whilst a genetic connection to the children isn’t necessary, these men may be a grandfather, uncle, stepfather, foster carer, family friend, religious guide or Elder.
The national Mother of the Year awards is dedicated to Mothers, managed by FamilyVoice Australia.
The Best Workplace for Fathers Award is ONLY for businesses and organisations, who go above and beyond to ensure father inclusion and equality. Nominations should only be made on behalf of the organisation, rather than an individual (although we recognise that small businesses, may not have more than one staff member). You are welcome to highlight the names of specific staff members within your nomination if relevant.
Following tradition, The Australian Father of the Year Award has been selected and awarded by the Australian Father’s Day Council since 1957.

Individuals, teams or clubs can lodge a nomination for the Sports Dad of the year award. Please highlight this in your nomination and ensure you include the contact details of one individual who is willing to represent the team or club if required.
