Brett Beasley: Community Father of the Year 2025
Turning Tragedy into Change: Brett Beasley’s Fight for Safer Communities
The bond between a father and son is one of life’s most profound connections – woven from shared moments, laughter, guidance, and the quiet pride of watching your child grow.
For Brett Beasley, that bond with his 17-year-old son, Jack, was unbreakable. Until one devastating night in 2019, when Jack was fatally stabbed while out with friends.
No father should have to bury their child.
In the depths of unimaginable grief, Brett made a vow: Jack’s life would not be defined by tragedy. His story would spark change, save lives, and live on.
Brett and his family began speaking out, determined to protect other young people from the same fate. Their tireless advocacy led to Jack’s Law – landmark legislation giving police the power to search for knives without a warrant in high-risk areas.
“I made Jack a promise – that I would fight to make change and keep his legacy alive. We’re doing that through education and through Jack’s Law.”
But Brett’s mission goes far beyond the halls of Parliament. He walks into schools, looks young people in the eye, and tells them Jack’s story – not to frighten them, but to give them the courage and tools to choose a safer path.
He speaks of a future where kids can grow up without violence, without knives – where they can kick the footy, ride motorbikes, play basketball, and simply be kids.
Brett Beasley is more than a father. He is a role model, a leader, and a fierce advocate for change. His strength and resilience are a testament to the unconditional love of a parent.
Through his grief, Brett has built a legacy that will protect countless other children and young people. As Australian Community Father of the Year 2025, he embodies the fierce, protective love that drives a father to change the world – and proves that even the deepest heartbreak can become a force for hope.
